
MALLAPPALLY: Union Minister Suresh Gopi was halfway through his journey to Coimbatore to participate in the Shivaratri celebrations when his phone showed an incoming call from the Prime Minister's office. The Union Minister of State was instructed to go to pay his last respects to Alin Sherin, the youngest ever organ donor in Kerala. Suresh Gopi thus abandoned the journey and reached Mallappally. The union minister paid last respects and said Alin will be remembered in the days to come for the message she gave to Kerala. MoS Suresh Gopi left only after the last rites were completed.
Suresh Gopi also implicitly mentioned the loss of his daughter in an accident years ago, saying that he would understand what Alin’s parents were going through now. Suresh Gopi and Radhika's eldest daughter, Lakshmi, died in a car accident when she was one and a half years old.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will visit Alin's family members on Monday evening.
State ministers V.N. Vasavan, Saji Cherian, Roshy Augustine, Veena George and others reached Alin’s house and the Nedungadappally CSI church. Minister V.N. Vasavan laid a wreath on the body of Alin on behalf of the Chief Minister. Pathanamthitta District Collector S Premkrishnan, District Police Chief S Anandan, public representatives and others paid their last respects.
Alin, who was seriously injured in a road accident on MC Road on the 5th of this month, died while undergoing treatment at Amrita Hospital in Ernakulam. After being confirmed brain dead, the family decided to donate Alin's organs.
