THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The investigation report has upheld the action of imposing serious charges against civil police officer Mithun Roy in the incident of the clash with SFI activists that broke out at the shopping mall in the city. The report prepared by the Fort Assistant Commissioner will be submitted to the City Police Commissioner. A case has also been registered against civil police officer Mithun Roy, a woman who was with him, and a group of SFI activists. However, minor charges were imposed against the SFI activists.
There was a dispute between the police team including Mithun and SFI activists on December 31st at Shanghumukham during New Year celebrations. The police had resorted to lathi-charge then. The clash in the mall was in retaliation for this.
Footage of SFI activists chasing the police officer and provoking him, and Mithun Roy confronting them with a thick bangle (idivala) had emerged. The ACP has found that the case registered against Mithun Roy under the non-bailable section is legal. Meantime, there are allegations that trivial sections were filed against the SFI activists involved in the clash.
One has to intervene in many matters as part of duty. The City Police Commissioner clarified that harassing officials in the name of that is unacceptable. The commissioner had earlier directed to conduct a special investigation into the circumstances leading to the imposition of the non-bailable section against the officer. Based on this, the report is now being submitted.
