KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has stepped in amid the growing controversy surrounding the film The Kerala Story 2. The court directed that the teaser and trailer of the movie be removed and stated that it will watch the film tomorrow evening. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas said that public concerns regarding the film cannot be ignored. During the hearing of a petition filed against the movie, Sunshine Pictures informed the court that it is willing to withdraw the teaser of The Kerala Story 2.
The High Court observed that the film is being examined primarily because of its title, which directly refers to Kerala. While considering the petition, the court also noted that Kerala is a state that strongly upholds secular values.
The court further remarked that Kerala is known for communal harmony and that portraying the entire state in the manner shown in the teaser could send a misleading message. It also pointed out that the makers have described the film as being based on a “true story” and inspired by real events, and said the producers must clarify the basis for such claims. The court added that presenting the film as based on real incidents may not be appropriate and warned that it could affect the image of Kerala.
