Couple ends life after son’s tragic death in December

KASARGOD: A couple was found dead at Poinachi in Kasaragod. The two has been identified as Venugopal (50) and his wife Smita (40). The two were found hanging in the hall of their house Friday morning. A suicide note was recovered from the house.

The couple’s son Sivanand (19) had died on December 29 in 2025 after fatally knocked down by a train. The youth, who had come to watch rapper Vedan's concert, was hit by the train. Sivanand was an engineering student. Relatives said the couple was in severe mental distress following the death of their only son. They had also sought treatment in this regard. The suicide note said they are ending the lives unable to bear the loss of their only son. The bodies have been shifted to Kanhangad District Hospital for postmortem.
