Other precious gold ornaments were in same cupboard; Palace refuses to respond

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Aswathy Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bhai refused to respond on the incident of losing precious gold ornaments from the Kowdiar Palace. Although it was confirmed that the ornaments were stolen, she refused to respond publicly. The Kowdiar Palace filed a complaint with the Peroorkada police yesterday on the incident that happened in November 2025.

In the first phase, an investigation was conducted within the palace. It is hinted that the family had some suspicions on some and later sought legal assistance. The statements of those working in the palace and visitors will be recorded today. There are a total of 15 employees in the palace.

The missing items include 12 items of jewellery that were handed over traditionally and are extremely rare. The ornaments were found missing when the cupboard was opened before leaving for Bengaluru in last November. The family in the complaint said the ornaments were there ten days before that. In the past few months, the family members were investigating whether those in the palace had taken it for their own use. When it was found that no one had taken it, a complaint was filed with the police on suspicion of theft.

Meantime, the police said the gold that went missing was kept in the bedroom of Aswathy Thirunal Gowri Lakshmi Bhai. The family demanded that an investigation be conducted without a complaint. The family had informed some officials about the matter two months ago, but no serious investigation was done. The incident came to light only when the commissioner informed that the investigation could proceed only if a case is registered. Other valuable jewels were also kept in the same cupboard and that was untouched.
