CHENNAI: It is common to receive high medical bills at private hospitals. However, a young man was left shocked after receiving a bill much higher than normal. Prashanth Rangaswamy, a youth from Chennai, has shared his unpleasant experience from a private hospital on social media. He said that the same treatment at a government hospital would have cost only a small amount for an OP ticket. Instead, he had to spend nearly Rs 10,000 at a private hospital.
What surprised many is the reason for such a high bill. Prashanth said he spent this amount at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai for a mild fever and cold. He said the total cost, including tests and medicines, was Rs 9,900. He shared the details in a post on X and tagged the hospital.
In his post, he wrote,' I had a mild fever. I went to an Apollo clinic to consult a doctor. The total bill was Rs 9,900. This included blood tests, a swab test, and medicines worth Rs 900. This is very high.”
Many people responded to his post. Some supported his claim, while others disagreed. Many said charging such an amount for a mild fever is unfair. However, some users said there was no need to visit a large private hospital for a minor illness. They suggested that he could have gone to a government hospital or a small clinic instead.
