HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has approved a bill that will deduct the salary of employees if they do not ensure financial support for their parents. The Telangana Assembly has passed the Telangana Employees Accountability and Monitoring of Parental Support Bill, which aims to ensure financial security for neglected parents.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy announced that if dependent parents are not paid for expenses, 15 percent of the salary or Rs 10,000, whichever is less, will be deducted. Those who are not getting the care of their children can complain before the district collector. The amount collected will be directly deposited into the parents' accounts. The chief minister said that the new law aims to reduce cases of neglecting parents and restore the dignity of elderly citizens. He clarified that children should share equal responsibility towards their parents.
If the parents approach the collector with a complaint, it should be resolved within 60 days. The complaint of the children and parents should be heard within this time. After hearing the arguments, an order should be issued stating the amount to be deducted from the salary. Along with their real parents, stepmothers and stepfathers will be covered by the bill.
