Hippo attack claims life of young veterinarian in Karnataka

BENGALURU: A young veterinarian was tragically killed in an attack by a Hippopotamus in Karnataka. The incident took place at the Tyavarekoppa Lion and Safari Park in Shivamogga. The attack occurred while she was providing treatment to the animal.

The victim has been identified as Dr Sameeksha Reddy (27), a native of Bengaluru. The incident happened around 11:30 pm on Thursday inside the enclosure.

She was reportedly attacked while examining a pregnant hippopotamus. Although she was immediately rushed to a hospital and underwent surgery, she succumbed to her injuries the next morning.

Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre expressed condolences over the incident. The government has announced compensation for the family and ordered an inquiry into the incident. Dr Sameeksha Reddy had been working on a contract basis.
