THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: R Sreelekha, former DGP and the NDA candidate from Vattiyoorkavu, alleged that the government ignored instances of love jihad in Kerala. She revealed that even when she, as a police officer, faced a bad experience, not even the DGP stood by her. She also questioned what action the government took when a minister’s wife recently faced a similar situation. Her revelation was during an event titled ‘brunch with R Sreelekha’ held in Thiruvananthapuram.

‘Crimes against women have increased fivefold from 2021 to 2026. The reason is that such crimes are being encouraged. There is a section of society that considers harassment of women as something normal. We now have a government that turns a blind eye when issues like love jihad occur. The state is being governed by ministers and a government that lack faith in God. I have personally experienced these many times. If any issue arises against me, even as a woman police officer, I alone have to face it. Even the DGP will not stand by me, because they can only do so with political approval. Recently, a minister’s wife faced a bad experience and was even locked inside her own house. Even after directly calling the police complaint cell, what action did the government take? This is the condition of Kerala,’ said Sreelekha.
