Odisha native aviation student drowns in sea at Edava

VARKALA: A 19-year-old woman drowned in Edava, Manthara beach while bathing with friends. Priyanka Sahoo (19), a native of Odisha, lost her life in the tragic incident that took place at around 6 pm on Saturday. Priyanka, a student of an aerodynamics pilot course in Bangalore, reached Edava on Friday morning to spend time here with three other engineering students from various colleges. She was staying in Kuma Surf House in Varkala.

By evening, Priyanka entered the sea with two other friends but was swept away by a big wave. Hearing the other women's screams, fishermen and locals carried out rescue operations. Fire force officials took Priyanka to Varkala Taluk Hospital in an ambulance, but her life could not be saved. Priyanka is the daughter of Bijayakumar Sahoo and Mamta.
