THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of a Malayali doctor who went missing while taking a holy dip in the Ganges river was recovered on Sunday. The body was found at Mansarovar Ghat, 200 meters downstream from where the doctor went missing.

Dr Mohan Krishnan went missing in the river on Saturday morning while taking a holy dip along with his wife Nalini, and son. The body was shifted to Shivpur Government Hospital. After the postmortem this morning, the cremation will take place at Manikarnika Ghat in the evening. The doctor's wife, Nalini Kumari, son Arjun, daughter-in-law Maya and grandson Kashinath, who were with him, will return home after the ceremonies. The other rituals will be held in the doctor’s hometown.

Friends and colleagues are mourning the loss of Dr Mohan Krishnan of Sree Ramakrishna Hospital, Sasthamangalam. Many were in disbelief over the news. Despite his busy schedule, Mohan Krishnan always found time for travelling. His zest for visiting new places was unquenchable. Even though crossed 70, the doctor made sure to find time for pilgrimages and pleasure trips. The latest on his bucket list was Varanasi, but tragedy was lurking in the holy city.

Dr Mohan Krishnan, an active member of the Kannammoola Sree Narayana Club, was preparing to go to Mumbai and Gujarat with club members and family members on the 29th of this month. The trip was arranged from Kochi to Mumbai by ship and then by plane.

Those close to him remember him as a doctor who kept service as cardinal over money. Mohan Krishnan was an alumnus of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. He worked for a long time in the cardiothoracic department of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and retired as a professor. After working at PRS Hospital for some time, he joined Sree Ramakrishna Hospital. Friends recall that Dr Mohan Krishnan was often ready to personally help the patients who came and told him their financial plight.

The passing of Dr Mohan Krishnan, who was full of love and compassion, is also a great loss in the field of healthcare.
