NEW DELHI: Air India and Air India Express have introduced a fuel surcharge on domestic and international flights. With this, domestic ticket prices will increase by Rs 299 to Rs 899, while international fares will go up by Rs 2,000 to Rs 26,000. The surcharge on domestic routes will come into effect from 9 AM today. For routes to Europe, North America, and Australia, the new charges will apply from the 10th.
Tickets already booked will not be affected. However, if passengers change travel dates, the surcharge will be applied. Air India clarified that the increase in fuel prices is not fully reflected in the surcharge. The surcharge has been introduced following a rise in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices due to tensions in the Middle East.
Earlier, IndiGo had also increased fares on April 2 by Rs 275 to Rs 10,000 for domestic and international flights after fuel prices rose by 8.5%. Since March 14, an additional cess of Rs 425 to Rs 2,300 has already been applied to flight tickets due to the same reason.
