
NEW DELHI: Senior Congress leader and former union minister Mohsina Kidwai (94) passed away at her residence in Noida Wednesday early morning. She was the AICC General Secretary in charge of Kerala in 2004. A powerful woman leader in Congress politics, Mohsina Kidwai held many crucial portfolios in the Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi cabinets.
She leaves behind her husband Khalil R Kidwai and three daughters. Her funeral will be held in the evening.
She started her political career in Uttar Pradesh. She joined the Congress party in 1950. She became active in national politics after winning the Meerut Lok Sabha constituency in 1978. She had served as a three-time Lok Sabha member, a two-time Rajya Sabha member and as a cabinet minister.
Mohsina Kidwai was born on 1 January 1932 in a Muslim family in Barabanki of Uttar Pradesh. After her primary education, she completed her intermediate and bachelor's degrees from Aligarh Women's College and Muslim University. She retired from active politics after completing her Rajya Sabha term in 2016.
