CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin strongly criticised the central government's move to conduct delimitation based on the 2011 census. Stalin called for black flag protests across the state tomorrow (Thursday, 16). Stalin said that if the voice of Tamil Nadu is ignored, the centre will face consequences and will have to pay a heavy price. Stalin's warning came after calling an emergency meeting of party MPs and district secretaries on the delimitation issue.
“The Delimitation Amendment Bill that the BJP-led government is going to bring in Parliament tomorrow is a historical injustice to Tamil Nadu and the southern states. The BJP is playing with fire. Tomorrow, black flags will be raised from homes and public places across Tamil Nadu in protest against delimitation.
If the central government ignores the voice of Tamil Nadu and goes ahead with the measures, it will face serious consequences. I am warning not as the DMK president but as a 'Tamilian'. This is not about any party or individual. This is about protecting the rights of our people. All parties and MPs in India should be ready to protect our democracy," Stalin said.
