THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF has retained the Thiruvananthapuram corporation rule. K Sreekumar was chosen as the new mayor of the corporation. The LDF got 42 votes against 35. The mayor election was necessitated after incumbent V K Prasanth was elected from Vattiyoorkavu assembly constituency in the by-polls.
Sreekumar presently CPM Vanchiyoor area committee member is the chairman of the health standing committee of the corporation. Sreekumar, the councillor from Chakkai ward, was first elected to the corporation in 2016. From the 99 people who voted in the first round, Sreekumar got 42 votes, M R Gopan 35 and Anil Kumar 20 votes. Three votes turned invalid. Sreekumar and M R Gopan of the BJP were competitors in the second round held. Sreekumar got 42 votes and Gopan got 34 votes in the second round. Following that, Sreekumar was later announced winners.
