CPM demands action against sub-inspector for mocking Chief Minister

KOZHIKODE: The CPM on Monday demanded action against the sub-inspector of Elathur police station for allegedly mocking Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. In a complaint handed over to the police, CPM accuses the SI of mocking the chief minister for opposing the Citizenship Amendment Act. CPM Kozhikode district secretary P Mohan added that the party will move forward with a mass protest if the authorities fail to take action against the SI.

As per the complaint, the SI had blocked a car that was being used in the Constitution Protection Rally held at Kozhikode on Sunday. The police officer was also heard criticizing the minister for opposing the CAA, the complaint read. In the complaint, handed over to the Kozhikode city commissioner, CPM asks the police to identify the SI and take action against him as soon as possible.

According to the party members, the SI had verbally abused the CM when the police stopped the vehicle in the name of checking for documents. Meanwhile, police have come up with an official explanation regarding the matter. According to the police, the car was stopped after some people complained that it exceeded the permissible noise levels during the rally. The car was soon released after checking, police added.
