THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM on Sunday said that it has expelled both the students who were arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for alleged Maoist links. According to CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, it was the CPM local committee that expelled the duo.

Explaining the party's stand on the issue, Kodiyeri said that CPM does not allow any of its members to work for another party. It must be noted that both Alan Shuhaib and Thaha Faisal were arrested from Pantheeramkavu in November for the alleged Maoist link. The decision to expel the students were taken by the party after conducting a party level investigation against them.
