THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Following the CAG report that exposed massive irregularities and missing cartridges in the police department, the government has issued a mysterious order for a secret investigation into the irregularities.

The order that doesn't reveal the details of investigating officers is alleged to be for phone tapping. The copies of the order issued by the joint Home Secretary Ajith K Joseph was only forward to investigation team members and the police chief.

Under the cover of the order, phones of political leaders and top police officials would be allegedly tapped. As there is no period mentioned in the order, the phone tapping could be prolonged for any desired time. Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala has had earlier alleged that his phone is being tapped. Though the police used to tap phones of top officials and media workers, the current aim is assumed to be prolonged phone tapping with the protection of the law.

Phone tapping would be possible only with the permission of the home secretary, before which a clear explanation and the FIR number should be submitted. So, unlawful phone tapping won't be possible for a long time. The secret investigation on the CAG report is to overcome this hurdle.

Through this secret investigation, the government aims to find corrupt officers and keep media under the radar as well.
