CHENNAI: In a controversial move, a journalist from Coimbatore has been arrested by the Tamil Nadu police for reporting about the shortcomings faced by health workers in the state and alleged corruption by some employees of the public distribution system. The journalist, the founder of the news portal called SimpliCity, has been charged under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Epidemics Diseases Act, sources said.
The journalist had reported that several doctors in the district are not receiving proper food and other facilities. He had also reported about ration shop workers looting provisions that were meant to be supplied for the poor. As per the FIR, the journalist had reported false news that can be seen as provocative against the state government.
