THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday announced that Wayanad district has been designated as Orange zone after it reported a new COVID-19 case. He also added that both Thrissur and Alappuzha districts have been shifted to Green zone as no active cases were reported in the districts in the last 21 days.

While Kannur and Kottayam will remain in the Red zone, nine districts in the state will be in the Orange zone. According to the Chief Minister, the situation in each district will be evaluated and variation in zones will be enforced. He further stated that lockdown restrictions in the containment zones that come under the red zone will be strengthened. However, relaxations will be allowed in other regions. While municipalities, wards and divisions considered as hotspots will be locked down, neighbouring wards of those wards designated as containment zone will also be locked down.

As per the list announced by the central government on Friday, both Wayanad and Ernakulam were designated as Green zones. However, this has changed after Wayanad reported a positive case on Saturday.

Meanwhile, public transport will not be allowed in any part of the state. All theatres and temples shall remain shut, he said. Ha also added that all beverage outlets in the state shall remain closed during the lockdown.
