THRISSUR: Devaswom Board Minister Kadakampally Surendran on Friday said that devotees will not be allowed to enter the Guruvayur temple from Saturday onwards. The decision was taken following the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the district and declaration of Chavakkad municipality as a hotspot, the minister said.

The decision was taken by the government on the basis of the recommendation made by the Guruvayur Temple Committee. It must be noted that 150 patients are under treatment for COVID-19 in the district. While the temple rituals will take place as usual, devotees will not be permitted to enter the temple premises. Meanwhile, the minister added that two weddings that were scheduled to take place in the temple premises on Saturday have been permitted.
