THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Though the authorities are maintaining that there is no community transmission in Kerala, the steep increase in the number of cases through local transmission is alarming. It must be noted that 1083 persons have contracted COVID-19 through contact in the last 10 days. According to experts, this steep rise in local transmission COVID-19 cases may well lead to community transmission in the state. What is even more alarming is the fact that the authorities have not been able to identify the sources of some of these cases.

With the number of local transmission COVID-19 cases increasing, the health department has announced that it has increased the number of COVID tests per day. In the last 24 hours, 13,478 samples were collected. So far, 3,47,529 samples have been collected and sent for testing.

On Sunday, 206 persons contracted the disease through contact. While Ernakulam and Kasargod reported the highest number (41) of cases through local transmission on Sunday, Thiruvananthapuram (31), Alappuzha (35) and Pathanamthitta(24) also reported high numbers of positive cases through local transmission
