THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the South West monsoon is gaining strength, there could be heavy rains in Kerala for four more days, informed the Met department. Intense rains will be experienced in North Kerala.

The Met department has declared Orange alert in six districts and Yellow Alert in other six districts. The Orange Alert has been declared in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts while Pathanamthitta, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts will be under Yellow alert.

The low depression over the Arabian sea is the reason for the heavy rain in Kerala. Strong winds are also likely in the State. The Met department has clarified that till September 10, there are chances for isolated rains with thunder and lightning.

The sea will remain rough and the wind will blow up to 60 km into the cost. Under these circumstances, the authorities have given strong instruction to fishermen not to go out into the sea.
