KOCHI: The customs has registered a case against Minister K T Jaleel. The case was registered against the minister based on the assessment that it is illegal to distribute imported goods in the state brought through diplomatic channel.

The customs will question him in connection with the distribution of religious texts. Preliminary assessment by customs is that there has been a breach of law in the distribution of religious texts brought through diplomatic channel. The texts were distributed in various parts of the state. The customs has appointed a special team to probe the incident.

Apart from the religious texts, 17,000 kilograms of dates were also brought via diplomatic channel and distributed. The diplomatic channel is used only for the protection of diplomats and their use. Diplomats have the permission to import drinking water to food items from their home country. However, under the cover of its protection, the religious texts were brought to Kerala and distributed.
