KOCHI: Two migrant labourers were killed in a blast at the quarry in Malayattoor, Ernakulam. The gunpowder kept in a nearby building exploded Monday morning. The two migrants killed in the accident have been identified as Periyannan (40), a native of Tamil Nadu and Dhanapalan of Karnataka.
The accident happened at Illithodu in Malayattoor. The incident happened at 3.30 am this morning. The building collapsed after the gunpowder exploded. The bodies of Periyannan and Dhanapalan have been shifted to a private hospital in Angamaly.
The two came for work at the quarry 12 days back. The incident happened when the two were in quarantine in the building where the gunpowder was kept. Though they were taken to the hospital, their lives could not be saved.
