KOCHI: More accused has gone under preventive custody in gold smuggling case on charges imposed under Cofeposa (Conservation of Foreign Exchange and Prevention of Smuggling Activities Act) act. The economic intelligence bureau which functions under central finance ministry has given nod for imposing Cofeposa charges on Sarith, K T Ramees, A M Jalal and Muhammed Shafi.
Cofeposa charges were imposed on the accused on the suspicion that they could again get involved in smuggling cases if they are set free. With this, the accused could be lodged in jail for a year without giving bail. Earlier, Cofeposa charges were imposed on Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair.
