Kerala records 5718 COVID-19 cases on Friday, 4991 cases through contact; 29 deaths

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala confirmed 5718 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, Health Minister KK Shailaja said. Among this, 4991 persons developed the disease through contact including 572 cases without an identified source of infection. 95 persons who came from outside the state also tested positive for the virus. 60 health workers tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 5496 patients tested negative for the virus today. As of now, there are 61,401 active cases in the state.

The state recorded 29 COVID deaths on Friday with the toll rising to 2358.

Ernakulam- 486
Palakkad- 447
Alappuzha- 394
Kollam- 318
Thiruvananthapuram- 279
Kannur- 275
Idukki- 216
Wayanad- 180
Pathanamthitta- 163
Kasargod- 146

In the last 24 hours, 57,456 samples have been tested. The test positivity rate stands at 9.95.

With the addition of 6 new regions today and the removal of 38, there are 444 hotspots in the state.
