PALAKKAD: It has been hinted that Minister A K Balan's wife will replace him in Tharoor assembly constituency.
Active discussions are going on in the party to field Dr K P Jameela, wife of Minister Balan. It will be discussed at the CPM district secretariat meeting to be convened today.
Dr Jameela earlier former director of health department is presently working in a private medical college. The new move comes as Balan has completed four terms. He has been representing Tharoor constituency since 2011.
Tharoor constituency came into existence with the assembly restructure in 2008. Tharoor, a scheduled caste reservation constituency, is a stronghold of the CPM. A K Balan won in 2011 from Tharoor with the highest majority in Palakkad comprising Kannambra, Kavaserri, Kottayi, Kuthannur, Peringottukurissi, Puthucode, Tharoor and Vadakkencherry gram panchayats of Alathur taluk. In 2016 Balan won by 23,068 votes.
