THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that he left the top post in the party, due to his ill health and the cases against his son Bineesh Kodiyeri. “When the cases against Bineesh was registered, naturally I decided to move away from the party leadership. First of all, I thought it is better to distance from the party leadership citing ill health. Along with this, my son’s criminal case created a psychological impact on me,” he said during an interview with a private news channel. When Kodiyeri Balakrishnan stepped down from the reigns of the party leadership just days ahead of the local body polls, senior leaders said he had stepped down due to ill health.

“The cases against my children are not under my control. They are adult individuals. They should have taken much more care and attention over such things. Now I have understood that Bineesh is not an accused in those cases. Bineesh only has bank cases relating to the establishment of the hotel. The central agencies have also taken cases against D K Shivakumar and P Chidambaram in this manner. Kodiyeri also opined that the central agencies can take similar cases against anyone in any manner they please,” Kodiyeri added.

“As I realised that Bineesh’s arrest could become a discussion topic among the people, I resigned from the post. Bineesh also proved that he is not a substance abuser,” he said. The senior leader also hinted about returning to the party’s top post in full spirits.

“Pinarayi Vijayan is a communist leader who is being viewed by the entire country. The people also love him and that is why new names are being given to him. In the party, everybody calls each other by the term ‘Comrade’ and the party is being led by a collective leadership. Today there is no factionalism in the party and we stand in a united manner,” he said.
