The Public Works Minister G.Sudhakaran is a person who speaks out his heart, come what may. His role in changing the disrepute of the public works department in the LDF government has been widely praised. Some of the things he said at his press conference in Alappuzha on Monday in the context of the election are very thought provoking. He told reporters some serious facts related to the growth of criminal gangs in politics. He pointed to a dangerous new situation that applies not only to his own party but to all parties.
Sudhakaran's observation that once it is night, these political criminal gangs act indiscriminately irrespective of parties is literally true. Although the minister's statement was made during the election and after the vote, some within his own party had taken exception to this.

But it is clear that his words have greater meaning than that. The criminalization of politics is an accepted reality today. These forces of darkness are more or less active in all parties. Such groups carry out many atrocities in the dark for the party leadership that cannot be in the day lighty. Such groups are tasked by the leadership to kill opponents or destroy them. In a state where unemployment has become the biggest social problem, it is not difficult to get young people to work as criminal gangs. The general nature of this can be seen by examining the occasional political assassination.

When Minister Sudhakaran says that there are all parties in groups that gather at hotels or other places at night and that the target is set at such gatherings, it is a big political reality that Kerala should be afraid of. At the same time, it is important to remember that such groups are not going to grow anywhere without a leader. This is where political leaders come into play. Criminal gangs can act fearlessly if there are people at the top to protect them.. In the early days it was the sand mafias that grew up as gang, then it was gangs in quarries, then in spirit business and finally in the drug business. It is no secret where the invisible strings behind all this end up.

Political leaders have a major responsibility to prevent the growth of criminal gangs in politics. Unfortunately none of the parties assumes that responsibility. Look at how political gain can be made from an event if it happens. There must be a zeal to see criminals as criminals and to act ruthlessly. The government must give it firm support. Mixing politics there would tantamount to fostering criminal gangs.
