THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of widespread rains in the state. The India Meteorological Department has warned that the low pressure forming in the Arabian Sea may turn a cyclone.
There were heavy rains in the southern districts in the last 24 hours. The capital received 142 mm of rain last night. Low-lying areas of the city and district are under water. It has been predicted that rain will continue in the state for the next four days.
New low pressure is expected in the Arabian Sea by Friday. The meteorological department said it is likely to turn a cyclone. If it becomes a cyclone, the name given by Myanmar Tauktae will be used.
Rains are likely to intensify in Kerala from May 14 onwards. Fishermen ventured into the sea have been directed to return to a safe place by Friday. Fishing has been banned on Kerala coast. The disaster management department has issued a warning to those living in coastal areas. The sea is rough along the coast.
