Consider reducing number of participants in swearing-in ceremony: HC to state government

kerala-high-court

KOCHI: The high court has directed to reduce the maximum number of people in the swearing in ceremony of the second Pinarayi government to be held tomorrow at the Thiruvananthapuram Central Stadium. The court also ruled that the number of participants currently fixed should be reduced. The wives and relatives of MLAs should be avoided as much as possible. The ceremony can be viewed online. It should be ensured that the participants are the ones who should compulsorily attend the function. The court pointed out that the current Covid situation should not be forgotten.

However, the court did not ban the ceremony at the Central Stadium.

Five hundred people were invited to the oath ceremony. But the government explained in court that it is expecting only 350 people as the opposition MLAs have informed that they will not take part.

A petition was filed in the High Court against the swearing-in ceremony of 500 people amid the Covid situation. The petition was heard by a division bench headed by the Chief Justice.
