THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The opposition UDF came down heavily on the reforms introduced in Lakshadweep when the assembly was discussing the resolution. Opposition leader V D Satheesan had alleged that the centre in Lakshadweep was carrying out a cultural invasion through the new administrator. Satheesan said the entire opposition fully agrees with the resolution and the new rules that are being implemented will completely destroy the basic rights of the island people and under no circumstances should this take place.

Satheesan said that his party and the opposition agree in principle with the resolution presented on Lakshadweep issue. The opposition leader demanded that the Lakshadweep Administrator be recalled and that the Centre's draconian law be thrown into the Arabian Sea.

Muslim League leader P K Kunhalikutty alleged that the administrator has now taken action against the peace-loving people of Lakshadweep. Lakshadweep is like a laboratory. He said yesterday it was Kashmir, today it's the island and tomorrow it would be Kerala.

No one remembered when the Centre brought changes in Kashmir. They split Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh in one cut. This is a calculated move to do this at all places where the Sangh Parivar agenda just cannot come through. All know Kerala is not in the good books of the Sangh Parivar and at no cost will we allow this to happen in the island, said Kunhalikutty.

CPI assembly party leader E Chandrasekaran said the Sangh Parivar was challenging the great idea of India and the very existence of a republic as a constitution through the actions of the Lakshadweep administrator. No one with patriotism would approve these reforms, he said.
