KOCHI: PS Sarith and KT Ramees, who are lodged in Poojappura Central Jail in connection with the gold smuggling case, were found to have used drugs in the jail on July 5, jail DGP Rishiraj Singh told the Ernakulam Economic Offences Court.

The two used drugs after 10 pm. It was clear from the CCTV footage that while KT Ramees was using drugs, Sarith was creating a cover and checking whether if someone is coming. During a subsequent search, two small scissors, a beedi and a lighter were seized. According to the report, the accused have been harassing the jail authorities and those who are questioning their illegal activities and are filing complaints in the courts and jurisdictions and putting pressure on the officials.

Meanwhile, the Economic Offences Court will record Sarith's statement on July 19 on a complaint filed by him alleging that the jail authorities were forcing him to name Congress and BJP leaders in the gold smuggling case.

NIA court moves hearing to July 16

The Ernakulam NIA court on July 16 adjourned Sarith's complaint alleging that he was being threatened in jail and that the jail authorities were forcing him to name Congress and BJP leaders. The court had recorded Sarith's statement on Saturday. The court has sought an explanation from the jail superintendent in the complaint. At the same time, there are indications that the names of the leaders were not mentioned in the statement given to the judge. Sarith's complaint states that he was threatened in jail and not allowed to sleep.
