THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With Kerala turning into a hotbed of Covid-19 infection again, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have tightened restrictions.
Karnataka has made RTPCR negative certificate mandatory for those who have vaccinated and coming from Kerala. A large contingent of police has been deployed for checking in the border. Extensive inspections are being carried out at many places including Bengaluru railway station. Those arriving without RTPCR certificate, a temporary arrangement has been made for the tests here. Passengers will be allowed to depart the railway station only after ensuring they are Covid negative.
The colleges have opened in Bengaluru following the drop in Covid cases. With the opening of the colleges, many including Malayalee students who came to Karnataka, are in distress by the new restrictions imposed. The bus service to Kasargod was also suspended by Dakshina Kannada. There is a concern that if the number of cases in Kerala does not drop, the restrictions may be tightened.
The Coimbatore district administration has made it compulsory for those from Kerala to enter Tamil Nadu with RTPCR certificate taken in 72 hours. Those who have taken both doses of the vaccine need show the certificate. Those who do not have both of these should undergo the test at the check post.
Checking has been tightened at all check posts entering Coimbatore, including Walayar. Only the Coimbatore government has tightened restrictions in Tamil Nadu. From Kerala to Tamil Nadu, there are strict restrictions only on the borders of Coimbatore and the Nilgiris. To travel elsewhere, an e-pass from the Tamil Nadu government is enough.
