THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM state secretary A Vijayaraghavan said the new DCC controversy would quicken the collapse of the Congress, which is collapsing even at the national level. Vijayaraghavan said there were two groups in the Congress earlier but with the new controversy it has risen to five groups.

Vijayaraghavan said A V Gopinath, the dissident leader who resigned from the Congress in Palakkad, was a popular leader. Vijayaraghavan said Gopinath was the voice of an activist concerned about the current state of the Congress. The CPM state secretary 's words praising the former Congress leader came amid speculation that Gopinath might join the CPM. Gopinath did not hesitate to praise Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the press meet announcing his resignation.
