Words such as 'eda' and 'edi' should not be used by police: DGP

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Anil Kant issued a circular directing the police not to continue addressing the public in a derogatory manner by using words such as 'eda,' 'edi' and 'nee'. Only polite words should be used. The order is based on the judgment of the High Court in this regard. The District Special Branch will monitor the conduct of police officers. If the instruction is violated, the concerned unit head will take immediate action. If such incidents are noticed through the media or complaints, the unit head will investigate and take disciplinary action.

Unit heads should take special care not to create situations that could tarnish the reputation of the police force in public.
