NEW DELHI: Union Minister V Muraleedharan's timely intervention has saved the life of a Keralite student of Jamila Millia Islamia who suffered from dementia. Junaid, hailing from the southern state of Kerala, was admitted to the hospital after he showed signs of dementia.
Soon after the preliminary consultation, the doctors concluded that he had to be admitted to the ICU and listed down a number of tests starting from all possible scans from CT, MRI, blood tests, etc… and demanded an advance payment of IRs 60,000 which had to be deposited with immediate effect.
This sent a shock not only to his friends but his father, in service with the fire department. Shaji in the wave of unexpected shock slipped and had a hard fall hurting his arms and forehead.
However, they reached Delhi the very next day and the people around the boy had no option but admit him to the hospital.
The hospital was adamant that it will not do anything further until an advance was paid.
The crisis was building every moment, as the boy was from a very humble background and his parents were certainly not in a position to afford such a huge amount of money.
It was at this moment that the people around the boy contacted a close accomplice of the Minister of State of External Affairs V Muraleedharan.
The boy’s health was deteriorating. He was in a state of hallucination and his platelet count was decreasing at breakneck speed.
Upon reaching the hospital, the boy's relatives had the boy discharged from the hospital on LAMA (leave against medical advice).
Later, he was admitted to AIIMS following the intervention of the health minister.
The doctor’s in AIIMS were super-efficient and knocked all boundaries of imagination of how a patient would be taken care of in an emergency situation.
The indisputable humanitarian approach and timely intervention of the Minister, despite being miles away did whatever needed to be done to save a fellow human being.
