Heavy rain in state for next five days, yellow alert sounded in several districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Met office has forecast heavy rains in the state for the next five days. Isolated showers are expected in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Idukki districts in the coming hours, officials said. Winds can reach up to 40 kmph.

Yellow alert has been declared in various districts. Today the yellow alert is in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. Rain warning is issued in Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Monday.

Authorities have warned of a similar alert to the orange alert in hilly areas that have received heavy rains in recent days. The IMD has forecast new low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. In 48 hours it will gain strength and move west-northwest towards the Indian coast.
