IDUKKI: The water level at the Mullaperiyar dam has touched 142 feet. With the water level touching 142 feet, Tamil Nadu opened two more shutters at 9 pm. With this, the four shutters of the dam are currently open. Each shutter has been raised by 30 cm. 1600 cubic feet of water is being released from the dam every second.

The water level at the dam had touched 142 ft on Monday night. Following this, Tamil Nadu released water from the dam on a large scale without issuing a proper warning. As water level in the dam rose, the water level in the Periyar river rose by two feet and about 5 houses in the Manchumala region were flooded. The water level in the Periyar dropped after the amount of water released by Tamil Nadu decreased following a decrease in the flow of water.
