IDUKKI: Tamil Nadu has closed four shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam. The five shutters, which were each 90 cm raised, were lowered to 60 cm. With this the amount of water flowing into the Periyar decreased to 3960 cubic feet per second.
The water was released at the rate of 7,900 cubic feet per second until 8:30 p.m. The shutters were raised between five and six o'clock. The increase in water flow was due to heavy rains in the Periyar Tiger Reserve, the catchment area of the dam, and in the Appada Manalar area on the Tamil Nadu border.
