Guru inspires people with the words 'get enlightened through education': President

KASARGOD: President Ram Nath Kovind said that schools and colleges are workshops that shape the destiny of the country and that the words of Sree Narayana Guru to become enlightened with knowledge are an inspiration to all. He was speaking at the 5th convocation of the Central University of Kerala at Kasargod.

The President, who praised Kerala for its literacy and women's education, also referred to the poem 'Mathruvandanam' by the great poet Vallathol. "This moment is a milestone in the lives of university students. Students who have completed higher education and their families are empowered through education. Your achievement contributes to the nation-building mission," he said.

"Kerala is far ahead of other states in the field of education. Thrissur and Nilambur are listed in Unesco's Global Network of Learning. PN Panicker had worked tirelessly to make Keralites literate. The statue of PN Panicker will be unveiled in the capital the next day. Sree Narayana Guru, a sage and social reformer, had always spoken of the importance of knowledge. India is a land of education. Aryabhata, Bhaskaracharya and Panini are always energy for us. Gandhiji inspired the indigenous education system," the President said. He lauded the doctors and scientists who are working hard in the fight against Covid.

"I love to visit Kerala which has unparalleled natural beauty. The warmth of the people here and the lush green fields, beaches, lakes, hills and forests are very attractive. Kasargod is the 'crown of God's own country'. Kasaragod is rich in biodiversity," he added.
