KOCHI: Congress leader P T Thomas, who died yesterday, was always a fighter, said Oommen Chandy. Can’t believe that he is not with us, he said.
‘He was so active. He had a good relationship with everyone beyond politics. This intimacy is the recognition given to PT Thomas by the society of Kerala. There was a difference of opinion with PT but was not detached from him. PT never adds water to his stance but at times could not agree with the stands. PT does not feel that he is wrong because that is his belief. The Kasturirangan report is an example. His stand was uncompromising. Climate change and natural disasters disturbed his mind. We could not pretend not to see the feelings of the local farmers and their grievances. The government had taken a strong stand in it. PT’s stand was entirely different. However, no one questioned his sincerity,’ said Chandy.
‘The relationship between us dates back to the time we worked together in KSU. It was not just a political relationship but was a friendly relationship. PT had given great importance in maintaining that relationship. Personal stands were never an obstacle to that’, said Chandy.
Rahul Gandhi arrived to pay homage to P T Thomas at the Town Hall in Ernakulam. He consoled PT’s wife and son. He left after spending some time with the family. T Siddique MLA became emotional while sharing PT’s memories. Leaders including Minister K Krishnankutty remmembered PT.
After keeping the body at Thrikkakkara Community Hall for public homage, the body will be laid to rest at Ravipuram Crematorium at 5.30 pm.
