Actress attack case: Police demands further probe, files plea in court

KOCHI: The police have demanded further investigation against Dileep in the case of attacking the actress. The probe team filed an application in the trial court seeking an inquiry into director Balachandra Kumar's revelations. The prosecution submitted a fresh application to the court this morning during the hearing of witnesses in the case. The investigation team had collected the available evidence on the basis of the director's revelation being circulated on social media. The audio recording submitted by the director along with the complaint is crucial in the case. There are indications that he presented evidence that is in line with the documents currently being submitted to the court by the probe team.

Balachandra Kumar had revealed that Dileep had received the footages of the attack on the actress and was trying to influence witnesses in the case. This was followed by a demand for further investigation. The prosecution also demanded that the trial of the case be stayed. The plea stated that Kumar's disclosure is new information in the case and therefore a detailed inquiry is needed into the matter.

In an interview to a channel, Kumar had revealed that Dileep had a close relationship with the accused in the case, Pulsar Suni, and that the actor and his relatives forced him not to divulge the information. Kumar was a close friend of Dileep. The friendship, which began in 2014, lasted until April 2021.

In the interview, the director had revealed that Dileep had received the footages of the attack on the actress when he was released on bail and that he was a witness to this. The footage of the attack on the actress was brought to Dileep's house by a VIP. Kumar said that he saw Dileep's brother Anoop and his sister's husband Suraj watching the footages.

He said that he had gone to Dileep's house the next day of his house warming function and had met Suni there. When he saw the picture of Pulsar Suni who came out claiming that he was the accused in case, he called Dileep and asked if he was the one he saw at his house. Kumar said that Dileep asked him which boy he was talking about.

Dileep later asked him not to divulge that he saw Pulsar Suni with him. While in remand, he was summoned to the Aluva jail and asked to do so again. Later, Dileep and his relatives acted lovingly. The actor’s brother-in-law called him. Kavya also called him many times. Kumar said Kavya told him that she will not eat anything until she gets a clarification from him.

The decision of the trial court on the plea of the prosecution will be decisive in the case. The trial in the case is in its final stages. The Supreme Court has ordered that the trial be completed by February.
