THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair expressed dissatisfaction for not declaring Mannam Jayanthi as a public holiday. He said the NSS had long been raising the demand to give public holiday for Mannam Jayanthi but the government is not taking any action in their favour.
Those not giving due consideration to NSS raise Mannam as a renaissance hero. The NSS said in a statement that it hoped the people would realise the double standards of such people. The main issue raised against the government is a public holiday on the 145th Mannam Jayanthi.
The UDF government had declared Mannam Jayanthi as a public holiday. However, no action has been taken so far to grant full holiday to institutions including banks. The recommendation should be given by the state government in this regard. However, there are currently 15 public holidays. The state government is of the view that there is a limit to the additional public holidays that can be granted. The NSS said things would be easier if the government recommends for it.
