THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transgender people are likely to be part of the police force. The home department has sought an opinion of the police in this regard.

The Battalion ADGP and the ADGP in charge of law and order should submit a report in this regard. The new act by the home department is part of an effort to give them access to all departments. The new discussions have started on the recommendation of the department of women and child welfare.

The recommendation of the government has reached the police headquarters. The government has sought opinion on how to recruit them to be part of the police force and how to implement things including training. It will also be examined in which areas they can be deployed. The police’ stand on whether they could be appointed in law and order matters will be informed to the home department. Further action will be taken only after the final decision of the police is known. A final decision on government’s recommendation will be taken at the top police officials meet after seeking the opinion of two ADGPs.
