54 more people confirmed with Omicron in Kerala as tally rises to 645

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George on Wednesday said that 54 more people in the state have been confirmed with the Omicron variant of Covid-19.

Districtwise, 12 cases were confirmed in Ernakulam, 10 in Kozhikode, Malappuram 7, Thrissur 6, Kottayam 5, Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad 3 each, Kollam and Alappuzha 2 each, and one each from Wayanad and Kannur. Two persons were from other states who returned from different countries. 33 came from low-risk countries and 6 from high-risk countries. 5 were from other states. 10 people contracted Omicron through contact.

Omicron has been confirmed in a total of 645 people in the state. 434 came from low-risk countries and 107 from high-risk countries. A total of 80 people were infected through contact. The minister said 24 people from other states were confirmed with the Covid variant.
