NEW DELHI: Ahead of the announcement of the CM face of Punjab, the state’s Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has said that he will abide by the decision taken by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Mr Sidhu indirectly expressed his desire for CM candidature through his message to Rahul Gandhi.
“Nothing great was ever achieved without an act of decision. Warm welcome to our leading light Rahul Ji, who comes to give clarity to Punjab. All will abide by his decision!”, Sidhu tweeted. Congress Punjab in-charge Harish Chaudhary had earlier said that Rahul Gandhi will announce the party’s chief ministerial face on Sunday, during his virtual rally in Ludhiana.
Rumours were rife that Punjab’s current Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi would be the party’s choice for the top job. The result of the polls for the CM candidate was to be announced on February 6, but was later shifted.
Mr Sidhu has had an eye for the CM post for a very long time. He had recently said that the party must choose someone “honest and with a clean track record”. He had dreamt of becoming CM when his rival Captain Amarinder Singh was sacked in September, last year. Following which he became the president of the party. Mr Channi has been nominated from two assembly constituencies. Punjab polls will be held on February 20 and the counting of votes will take place on March 10.
