KIZHAKKAMBALAM: The postmortem of Deepu, who died while undergoing treatment after getting beaten by CPM activists, will take place today. The post mortem will take place at Kottayam Medical College.
The postmortem was shifted to Kottayam as per the demand of Deepu's family members. The body, which will be brought to Kizhakkambalam today afternoon, will be kept at Twenty20 Nagar for the public to pay their last respects. The funeral will take place at the Public Crematorium in Athani by 5 pm.
Deepu, a Twenty20 activist, was beaten up by CPM activists during a candlelight protest against Kunnathunadu MLA P V Srinijin in Kizhakambalam last Saturday. Nisha Aliyar, a local panchayat member, told police that the attackers had threatened to kill him if he went to the hospital or lodged a complaint. Deepu was taken to the hospital two days later after he complained of a severe headache. He died on Friday.
Police have arrested four CPM activists in connection with the incident. The arrested persons have been identified as Zainuddin Salam, Abdul Rahman, Abdul Aziz and Basheer. They have been charged with murder.
