NEW DELHI: The Defence Ministry on Friday revealed India had accidentally fired a missile into Pakistan. The ministry said that the missile was fired due to a technical malfunction.
The incident took place on Wednesday. The missile, launched from India, landed in an uninhabited area of Pakistan.
The ministry has ordered a high-level probe into the accidental firing of the missile. "On 9 March 2022, in the course of routine maintenance, a technical malfunction led to the accidental firing of a missile. The Government of India has taken a serious view and ordered a high-level Court of Enquiry," the Defence Ministry said.
The ministry also said in a statement that the incident was regrettable and that it was a great relief that no casualties were reported.
Earlier, it was reported that a missile from India was found travelling in the Pakistani territory. The Defence Ministry's explanation came after this.
